Tips for a Great Thanksgiving

Here is a list of great tips to make your Thanksgiving day run smoothly from April Carman at The Nuclear Family:

  • Plan your menu: Make a list of all the different dishes you plan to make for the occasion.
  • Find all the recipes: OK, at my house my favorite recipes are scattered all over - some are on the computer, some are in a family cookbook and some are in my little ole recipe book I've had forever. Get them all together and print them out.
  • Make your grocery list: Using your recipes, make a grocery list. Don't try to remember what you'll be needing . . . not even for that recipe you make every year and you think you remember so well. It will save time in the long run if you actually look at the recipe when you make your list.
  • Tape the recipes on your cabinets or cupboards: Now this one sounds sort of strange until you think about it. It really will save you time.
  • Check each recipe for things you can prepare early: Anything in the recipe you can chop, cut, or dice the day before and put in baggies will be helpful. And of course the pies can be made a day or two be for the 'big day'.
  • If possible, cook your turkey on the grill: This will free up the oven for other important items such as rolls and such.
  • These are all great ideas that will work not only for Thanksgiving but on other busy cooking days. Maybe this year, you'll be the hostess with the most and still be able to enjoy your day.

    Until next time,
    Bee
